This program offers temporary hosting and support to children and families in crisis, providing safe, loving homes during times of instability. The heart of the program is to mobilize vetted volunteers to create a compassionate community of care.
Are background checks required?
Yes, background checks are mandatory. We ask volunteers and interns to cover the cost of their background check. However, if background cost is a financial barrier to you, that is no problem. Just let us know, and we can come alongside you in that.
Are reference checks required?
Yes, we require two reference checks, except for those applying to be a Host Family.
Is there a set minimum number of hours per week for internship participation?
It depends on the specific internship opportunity, but most teams expect a minimum commitment of 15-20 hours per week.
Can I volunteer with multiple teams within FIVE18 Family Services?
Yes, you can let the Employee & Volunteer Relations Specialist know which teams you'd like to assist with.
Are there one-day volunteer opportunities available?
Yes, we offer one-day volunteer opportunities through events and special projects within our organization.
Are there opportunities to earn CSER hours?
Yes, we are a preferred partner on the CSER website, and you can earn hours through volunteer work.
Do you offer paid internships?
We do not offer paid internships, but we do have paid opportunities at Hat Creek Camp, where you can become a Camp Counselor Intern and receive a weekly stipend.
